Flying High

People always tell me that I've got my head in the clouds and that I have these big lofty dreams which only sets me up for disappointment. But I don't look at it that way. I figure if I set my goals really high and let's say I only get halfway there, I would be thrilled with what I accomplished. And if I get it all, I might pass out from the shock and excitement.  It definitely takes a lot of hard work and causes more heartbreak than any human being should ever subject themselves to but I will never stop trying. That said, I've got some dresses to work on this weekend to give to one of Hollywood's top 25 celebrity stylists for his beautiful client. Fingers crossed she wears one of them!

Go big or go home!

On The Grid

I saw this dress on Blair from Atlantic Pacific and desperately wanted to buy it but it was sold out on Asos. I stalked ebay everyday for a month and just when I was about to give up, I finally found one!  I love everything about this dress. The silhouette is very 1950's and flattering on everyone and the black and white grid pattern is so on trend right now. Such a great score!

Let's go to the hop!

Caught Red Handed

Chris' first novel, The Sketcher's Mark is now available on Amazon! It's an edge of your seat horror suspense thriller.

A serial killer posing as a sketch artist preys on young women travelling alone in the tourist areas of Paris. His latest victim is the sister of driven LAPD Detective Lara McBride, a woman who hunts predators like him for a living. When she touches down in Paris to find her missing sister, an escalating game of cat and mouse leads her and the killer from the rain swept streets of Paris to the isolated countryside, where the key to the killer's Masterpiece awaits them...

Does the killer get caught red handed? You'll just have to buy a copy to find out. ;) There's also a part of the book for us fashionistas....part of it takes place during Paris Fashion week. Support indie artists! Click here to get your copy now! Thank you for your support!

Jailbird Is Now Freebird

Hello all! I just got back from a quick whirlwind trip to Vegas.  We were only there for 4 days but it felt like we were gone for 2 weeks. It was nice to see my mom and dad and just relax and let loose at the pool. It was so hot I lived in my bikinis, shorts and tank tops.  I feel refreshed and rejuvenated and ready to get some shit done now. It's a nice feeling since I was feeling a little burnt out and uninspired. We were at PF Chang's for lunch today and my fortune cookie said "Keep your eyes on your long term goal. Don't hesitate to act now"

Wise wise fortune cookie.

Sunshine!

It was the perfect weather all weekend. I decided I needed to relax this weekend and enjoy the sunshine. I was in Old Town Pasadena today with some friends. We did a little shopping, had dinner and saw Star Trek which was awesome! Action packed and fun to watch. I even got a little teary and emotional towards the end of the movie. Not to mention, my friend and I quite enjoyed looking at Chris Pine.

I was excited to wear my new Zara skort and Topshop tiger sweatshirt.  I first saw this sweatshirt in LOOK which is a British magazine. After some creative searching on the internet, I was able to track it down at Nordstroms. I love this thing. Anyway, turning in. Back to work tomorrow.

Live long and prosper everyone!

It's All About Balance...

Life is all about balance...You take the good with the bad, you laugh and then you cry, you love and then you hate. That pretty much sums up my day. I had a flat tire because I drove over a nail. I was on the phone with my husband and he was telling me to call AAA to come change the tire to the spare and then to go buy a new tire after work which would cost around $75. Kinda sucks to spend that money but these things happen. But I really lucked out because I happened to be at a gas station that had its own mechanic. He overheard my ordeal came over and offered to patch the tire because nothing else was wrong with it. It cost me $10 and I was happy that I didn't have to spend the money on a new tire. Cut to 2 hours later......I just got home from work. I was crossing the street and my phone fell out of my bag. I couldn't get to it on time due to oncoming traffic and I watched helpless as my phone got run over. As soon as traffic cleared up, I ran out to get it and saw that the screen was completely cracked. The phone still works though which is a miracle. I called my husband to see if we had insurance on the phones and he said yes but I still might have to spend $70 on a new phone anyway. So, I saved the money on the tire but now I have to spend it on a new phone. All I could do was laugh. That theme was evident in my outfit choice as well. I have this really pretty pleated dress from Victoria's Secret. I balanced out the femininity with the masculinity of an army jacket.

So, I'm going to finish my healthy dinner which is a grilled chicken salad, and then go get some very unhealthy ice cream for dessert on my way home from getting my new phone. Hey, it's all about balance, right?

P.S. Actually everything ended up working out great. Just got back from Best Buy and not only did I not have to pay for the new phone, I ended up getting $50 back because the phones are on a special sale. Thanks universe! :)

Cherry Blossoms

My favorite flowers are cherry blossoms so when I found this kimono jacket at Forever 21 I was very excited. But besides being pretty, I love what cherry blossoms are a symbol for. They are a symbol for hope and love and since the blooming season is so brief they also serve as a symbol for humanity and mortality. Like cherry blossoms, a person's life can end at any moment. The human condition is epitomized through the cherry blossom, reminding people that life is too short to waste and that they should live life to the fullest. This reminds me of my favorite story. I've posted it in the past but I love to repost it as a reminder. I hope you all find it as special and inspiring as I do.

A water bearer in China had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water to his house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After 2 years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, and because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house." The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house"

Moral: Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are, and look for the good in them.

Blessings to all my crackpot friends. The graces of living within the moment...

It Girl

I got a lot of compliments on this outfit. I even got photographed for a street style blog outside of the Coffee Bean in Beverly Hills. I felt so special .  This is my favorite blazer right now. Its by Theory. It just fits so perfectly and the color is great! At the moment,  I'm working on dress orders. I've been up since 7 am to make sure that I finish them all. Business has been decent and I'm thankful for that. When I'm working at home, I like to have movies playing in the background. I almost always have The Devil Wears Prada on, I practically know the entire thing by heart . Ahhh, the life of a fashionista. My eyes are crossing from sewing for 8 hours straight so it's time to quit for the day. I'm in the mood for a scary movie now...maybe The Shining.

All work and no play makes Munkeh a dull girl...

She's a Maniac...

I was a bit loopy today. Mainly due to the lack of sleep last night. I decided I desperately needed to unwind after work today so my friend and I went to the Grove after work, did a little shopping and had a glass of wine and a spanish cheese and meat platter. We found our favorite hot sauce in a shop in the Farmers Market and discovered plenty of funny ones as well. As for my outfit, I've been obsessed with the bright neon lime yellow lately and even more obsessed with the color combo of lime, black and white. Still waiting to hear from the people from yesterday....

I feel like I'm babbling so I better just go. lol

LA Style Experience

I got to work with top celebrity stylist  Nicole Pollard today! She is the founder and CEO of La La Luxe a luxury lifestyle personal shopping and styling company.  I had an absolute blast and the women I got to meet were all fantastic. Nicole gave an inspiring speech at the luncheon and there's one phrase that has stuck with me. Live your life without fear. So true. We started the event at the Fig and Olive on Melrose for lunch and then each stylist had 2 people to take on a sponsored shopping spree by their company.  The 2 ladies I had were really nice and just really great people.  We went to Joes' Jeans, Dash and then Fred Segal's. Did I mention we were being driven around in a town car for the afternoon.  We felt so important. lol.  When Nicole asked me to do this she mentioned that we had to wear all black, kind of on the conservative side which is the "uniform" of an LA stylist. If you haven't guessed by now, that is the complete opposite of how I usually dress. But I had to add my own personal flair and I think I came up with an outfit that worked for the event.

Anyway, I've got something huge tomorrow and I must prepare for it.  I'm currently making a blouse to wear and I have to get all my presentation materials in order. I'm nervous and excited! If it all works out, it could be a very life changing thing.  I can't really say what it is just yet, but I will as soon as I can. Wish me luck! And Universe, if you are listening...please be on my side tomorrow! It was actually perfect timing to hear Nicole's speech today because everything she said applies. Fingers crossed! Alright, got to get back to work.

Remember everyone...live your life without fear!
