I Live in My Sweats

Thank god sweatpants are considered chic right now because I live in them lately.  lol  I've been so busy that I just need something easy to throw on.  I just got a pair of faux leather jogging pants and these have been my savior.

Back to the sweatshop.....Have a great weekend!

Even Cowgirls Get the Blues

It's been a while since my last post. I had to go out of town for some family stuff and have been dealing with a lot. It hasn't been the best couple of weeks but now things seem to be looking up again. But hey, that's life right?

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.....

Fashion Show Fever

I helped dress models for our fall kickoff fashion show at work the other day.  It was a lot of fun but it made me miss doing my own runway shows.  The last show I did was in February 2011.  I won a competition and I got to showcase my collection during London Fashion Week. (See video below for highlights.) Prior to that, I showcased every 6 months for LA Fashion Week and also participated in several charity fashion shows benefitting various organizations. It was a fashion show frenzy for a while. Hectic but I loved every minute of it. That being said... It's been way too long so I've started making plans for next year and I'm really excited.  Stay tuned for updates....It's going to be big :)

I've got the fever again....

From Russia With Love

I checked the stats of my blog recently and noticed that a lot of my readers are from Russia. Spasibo! You all know how much I love to mix and match my prints and this particular combo reminds me of Russian textiles.

Fall Preview

As much as I love summer clothes, I'm anxious for the fall season to start because I love the upcoming fashion trends. I've also been lucky enough to see previews of designer's autumn/winter collections and of course want everything in my closet.  A couple of key trends for fall that I decided to play around with the other day are laser cut leather and mixing textures.  There's also going to be a lot of feminine silhouettes reminiscent of film noir glamour.

Good night everyone!

Le Make Up Artiste

Make up is an important field in any creative industry. Fashion, film, theater, art....but I barely know the basics of how to apply my own makeup. haha. My friend bought me some fancy eye brushes from the convention in Vegas and I had no idea how to use them until she taught me how. But I figured, since I am in the fashion industry I should probably learn more about makeup or surround myself with talented people who know what they're doing. There are 2 ladies in particular who come to mind.  I had the pleasure of meeting Veronica Munoz and Sarah Morales a couple of months ago while they were working on a pilot with my husband. Their specialities range from beauty, fantasy, injury, special effects and prosthetics. And let me just say their talents have no bounds.  I was blown away by their work and highly recommend them to anyone.

Thank you for sharing your talent ladies!

Black and Blue

I am a giant clutz.  I'm always bumping into things and tripping over everything including my own feet.  I have so many bruises I can't account for haha. Last night, I went to an event at work and while I was there, ran into a cement block and cut my leg. It's all black and blue at the moment.  But not even that could have stopped me from wearing my new dress.  It was a birthday present from my friend.  I've been lusting after this Thakoon Addition dress since I first saw it .  I love the color combo, the embroidery and the contrast of the lace paired with the leather. I just wish I didn't have the matching black and blue bruises on my leg haha.

Have a safe evening everyone!

Camo and Lace

I love the contrast of masculine and feminine and that's why I decided to pair my camo jacquard pants with an eyelet ruffle tube top.  My friend told me that I am the girliest girl she knows and that only I could make camo look frilly.

You know what they say...pretty in pink....dangerous in camo.

Fun With Fringe

We were told in a meeting yesterday that we should do things in the morning to put ourselves in a good mood before we come to work and to try to not let any negative thoughts or things we may be dealing with personally interfere with work.  I completely agree with that even though sometimes it is very challenging.  Some things I like to do that put me in a great mood are listening to my favorite songs and visualizing funny, positive things. I've also recently discovered tai chi and that makes me feel wonderful. But what always seems to work the best is getting dressed in the morning.  I feel like I'm playing dress up. That's why I love bright colors, funky prints, anything sparkly and of course feathers and fringe. I just wanted to shake my skirt while I was walking around at work today and it made people laugh.

Spread the positive energy around. Think happy thoughts and smile. It's contagious!

Trash or Treasure

My friend and I went to the Pickwick Vintage Show yesterday in Burbank.  It was a great event and a lot of vendors had some incredible pieces. It was definitely a treasure trove.  I saw a to die for vintage Chanel suit. The tweed jacket was in impeccable condition and the silk chiffon pleated skirt didn't even look like it had been worn.  It was such a Jackie O outfit and every part of my being wished I could have purchased it.  But it was $1200 and even though that is a really great price for Chanel, it's still just a tad out of my budget. Some vendors  had vintage Dior, Valentino, Gucci, and Missoni. There was a Lanvin necklace I would've sold my left hand for but decided against it haha. My friend scored 2 Dior Dresses for $200 which he had to barter for. I found the amazing skirt I'm wearing in my photos. I love it! It's unique and one of a kind and I may have to make a modern day version of it... After Pickwick we had lunch and then decided to go checkout the Melrose flea market because neither of us had been there for years. It really has changed. It's huge now but it's mostly just junk. There were maybe 2 booths that had authentic vintage clothes and everything else was the stuff you find in the downtown alleys but marked up 4x. They did however have vintage Star Wars toys and vintage magazine covers in beautiful frames, which in retrospect I wish I bought now.

That saying really is true though...one person's trash is another person's treasure.

Unleash Your Inner Tiger

I took a Tai Chi class for the first time today and I absolutely loved it! I felt like a brand new person, rejuvenated and I was in a very happy place the whole day today.  I learned various techniques on how to focus and channel my energy in a very positive way. I will definitely be going to more classes. Doing Tai Chi also inspired me to find that passion and creativity within myself and rekindle that fire for life because sometimes I feel stuck and unmotivated.  I feel alive again!

Unleash your inner tiger.....grrrrrr!

Birds of Paradise

I fell in love with this fabric and decided to make a really pretty flowy summer dress. The print and the bright colors make me think of a tropical paradise.  I started daydreaming about where Chris and I should go on our next vacation.  I would love to go to Bali to see the Monkey Forest.  It's literally a forest of Monkeys and the number one rule is to never go into the Monkey Forest without monkey food. Sounds like the rules of my house, haha.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Are Those Real?!?

I used to think that spending $100 on a pair of shoes was a bit much but because I work in the fashion industry in Beverly Hills, I've seen women drop $4000 on one pair of shoes. Now, $100 is chump change haha.  But it's crazy the lengths that some women will go just for a pair of shoes.  My friend tells me all the time that she would sell me for her dream pair of Alaia booties.  Whenever we have sales, especially on Black Friday or the day after Christmas, women line up around the block starting at 6:00 am, the store opens at 8:00am btw, some of them have even camped out the night before. I've seen grown women get into fights. Two years ago, one woman was arrested for hitting another one over the head with a Louboutin stiletto, and the one that got hit was rushed to the ER for stitches and a possible concussion. I watched several women hoard as many shoes as they can and then try to sell them to other women for double the price while they were still in the store.  Don't get me wrong. I love shoes and clothes. But I still can't wrap my head around spending my rent on them and that's with my discount applied on the sale price. That's why I was thrilled when I found these Valentino Rock Stud look-a-likes on Shoedazzle. They were $40. Each time I've worn them, I've received death stares from the jealous ones who think I just dropped $995 on the real things or admiration from the ones who also think they are the real things. I also have a skirt has a very similar print to Dolce and Gabbana's current spring/summer collection and I've received the same kinds of reactions.  It's all about status isn't it. Some people just get so wrapped up in the label that they lose all sense of logic.  I'm proud of my bargain shopping skills. Hey, I rock sunglasses from the 99cent store and I love those things. I've said this before,  it's not the clothes that make you look great, it's your confidence.

Be proud of what you have and who you are!

The Jungle Book

One of the stylists I work with told me that she loves coming to our office to see what I'm wearing because every outfit I put together tells a story.  Today it was the Jungle Book.  It was kinda perfect she said that because I had the song Bear Necessities stuck in my head all day.  I love disney music. It makes me happy.

Let's Mix Things Up A Little....

I've been feeling restless lately so I've been trying to mix things up a bit.....starting with my outfit choices. You already know from previous posts that mixing prints is hands down my favorite trend this season. How appropriate considering the state of mind I've been in.  I'm ready for some major changes and I feel like it could all happen really soon.

90's Nostalgia

I am so excited that overalls have made a comeback this season!  It's so 90's. I used to have a long denim one and a short denim one and I practically lived in them everyday. I'm actually kind of sad that I got rid of them now. But I found this Zara one and they are fabulous because I can dress them up or down. Wearing these, has made me feel a bit nostalgic. The 90's were great. Here are some of my favorites. I'm sure I'm leaving a bunch of stuff out too.

Southwest Flair

I'm really digging the southwest trend this season, especially the details on tops and dresses.  I found this sweatshirt in H & M.  I love it! It's pretty much my uniform on my days off.  I took today off so I could pick Chris up from the airport. He's been gone for almost 3 weeks working on his webisode. It's turning out really great and it's super funny. I can't wait to share it with all of you!

Have a wonderful afternoon!

Sunshine!

It was the perfect weather all weekend. I decided I needed to relax this weekend and enjoy the sunshine. I was in Old Town Pasadena today with some friends. We did a little shopping, had dinner and saw Star Trek which was awesome! Action packed and fun to watch. I even got a little teary and emotional towards the end of the movie. Not to mention, my friend and I quite enjoyed looking at Chris Pine.

I was excited to wear my new Zara skort and Topshop tiger sweatshirt.  I first saw this sweatshirt in LOOK which is a British magazine. After some creative searching on the internet, I was able to track it down at Nordstroms. I love this thing. Anyway, turning in. Back to work tomorrow.

Live long and prosper everyone!

Right on Target

I am having one of those philosophical, what is the meaning of life and how do I fit into it, kind of days.  It all started when I was given a bit of information from a third party regarding my "news". It wasn't bad or good, just information that really has no meaning right now because it was taken out of context and not directly from the main source. However, it started the mish mash of thoughts in my head. Sometimes I wonder, what's the point? Is it worth all the anguish and disappointment?  And no matter how disheartening it gets sometimes, my answer is always absolutely yes.  Because along with all that comes passion, excitement, love and true happiness. And that even though I feel lost sometimes, I know deep down that I am right on track and that someday whether it's tomorrow or 10 years from now, I will get there. But enough with all the deep stuff.....you know who else is right on track these days is Zara. I must say, they have outdone themselves this season. So many great pieces at a great price point. I want it all and I want it now!!!  I did manage to snag some of it but not I'm not even close to half of my list. Did I mention my birthday is coming up........

Stay on track and never give up! Life is too short. Go after what you want.

xoxo,
Munkeh

Everything is Zara except for the jacket. I needed these shorts in my life.

The front of the top is faux leather and the back is sweater knit. I get so many compliments on these shoes it's ridiculous.
I love to mix prints!
The bomber jacket is Zara. It's all embroidered and has little mirrors sewn onto it.
Pants- Forever 21
Shoes- Jeffrey Campbell

I saw this outfit on Blair from Atlantic Pacific and needed to have it.
The top looks great with leather pants or a plain skirt.
The skirt looks great with a blazer or just a simple t shirt.
And of course these amazing shoes go with everything!
I just got this skort. The front looks like a skirt but the back is shorts. It seems like everyone has this,
but it's just too great of a wardrobe piece not to have it.

This is on its way! I love the tiger print and I plan on wearing it with the above skort :)

My birthday wish list is below......
Must have this jacket. My friend has it and I tried to steal it from her.

How cute are these shorts?!? I wouldn't wear it with the jacket, it's a bit much even for me
but I have plenty of things in my closet that need to be paired with these.
Love this!

Matching shorts to go with the above kimono jacket.
This sweatshirt is already sold out in my size online but there may be some random ones floating around in stores.

I want the whole outfit.

This jacket needs to be in my closet.

Leather overalls!?! Come on! Must have item of the season.

The whole outfit....sweatshirt with embroidery and the leather skirt has embroidery on the sides.

Love this jacket but it's sold out almost everywhere :(

And this concludes my homage to Zara.... to be continued soon ;)
